Large Gas Explosion Reported on Murray State Campus
MURRAY, KY – Multiple first responders are on scene after an apparent gas explosion Wednesday afternoon at a residence hall on the Murray State University campus.
We have a reporter on scene who says the new Richmond Hall has suffered extensive damage, with bricks and other debris blown several hundred yards. Windows have reportedly also been blown out at College Courts and Winslow Dining Hall. Several area residents have contacted us and said they heard what sounded like a bomb going off.
Scanner traffic indicates there may be injuries, but none have been confirmed. Units are being requested from surrounding counties to assist.
Traffic on Waldrop Drive is reportedly blocked at both ends, and the area has been evacuated. Everyone is being advised to stay away from the area until further notice.
This is a developing story. We will have more information as details emerge.
